nPhytosphingosine contains phytosphingosine encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles with an average size of 200 nm. The nanometric size allows for better penetration of phytosphingosine into the skin and the animal’s fur, as well as providing gradual release. When applied to the animal’s skin, lipid nanoparticles form an occlusive layer on the skin, preventing water loss and assisting in maintaining skin hydration. Phytosphingosine is a sphingoid base present in the stratum corneum that plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin. Topical application of phytosphingosine and its derivatives increases ceramide levels in the stratum corneum and improves the skin’s barrier function, primarily important in maintaining conditions such as dry skin and atopic dermatitis in veterinary medicine. Phytosphingosine has been widely used in the development of dermatological products for animals with sensitive and/or atopic skin, such as shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and sprays.
Usage Recommendations: For external veterinary use. Shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and sprays (1 – 5%).
